Never Scared

Never Scared

There is an increased amount of FEAR in our Country right now. Today is Election Day!

To honor this day I will start with Psalm 27:1

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Now, let’s discuss how fear affects the body and we’ll cover some tips on how to overcome fear.  Fear is a protective emotion that evokes an emotional response. It alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm (physical or psychological).

Fear is felt in the mind and body. The brain triggers a strong physical reaction in the body, then the brain alerts the nervous system. This activates the body’s fear response, which can lead to a few of the following reactions. A rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, hyperventilation, blood flow changes - it flows away from the heart and into the limbs, making it easier to start throwing punches, or running for your life (Fight or Flight).

If you find yourself in a fearful state remember a few of these techniques. Take deep breathes, imagine yourself in a relaxing place, exercise, and meditate. Don’t hesitate to talk to a therapist, coach, support group, or leader at your church to connect to a community.

There is a positive aspect to fear. Fear can be a natural response to a situation that could be dangerous, recognizing it can keep you safe.

Fear is in the mind and there are two acronyms that always come to mind:

F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real

F.E.A.R. Face Everything And Rise

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
